One or more doctors working together to provide primary medical care to their community. The majority in Australia are owned by the doctors who work in them, with a minority owned by companies (corporate practices). Health insurers do not own any of these practices. The current insurance arrangements permit only the universal insurer, Medicare, to cover these costs.
As small businesses, they vary in character and philosophy. Registrars normally work in a variety of practices before Fellowship, to expose them to different models of practice.
